FAQs

Do you offer consultations for native plant landscaping?

Our landscape diagrams are designed to cover most situations in Houston. You are able to mix and match the specific plants while following the plan to group and space your plants appropriately. We do not currently offer custom plans.

Will you install or maintain my native plant landscape?

No, we do not provide installation or maintenance services. We are happy to recommend professional landscapers who are familiar with native plants and ecologically sustainable gardening practices. Our customers also receive specific instructions on planting to ensure DIY success.

I'm a newbie gardener. How will I know how to take care of my plants?

You will get an instruction sheet when you pick up your plants with everything you need to know to take care of them. Sign up for our newsletter or follow us on Facebook and Instagram for ongoing gardening advice.

What is the minimum order?

Our minimum order is $25. Try one of our landscaping kits to get a plan with all the plants you need.

How do I get my plants?

You will see pickup information at checkout and will receive a follow-up email with details on pickup timing.

I really want to buy plants from you but I can't pick them up.

That's ok! You can send a friend to pick your plants up for you. We may be able to hold your plants for a few days if you email ahead of time.

When do you have plant sales?

We time our plant sales to the spring and fall when it is ideal to plant in the Houston landscape. Both sales have perennials and annual flowers, ground covers, vines, and small shrubs. In the spring, we have vegetables and herbs. In the fall, we have more shrubs, trees, and prairie grasses.

Do you grow everything yourself?

We source our plants from commercial nurseries around Texas who are committed to propagating native plants and not using pesticides that harm pollinators. Most of our growers are in the Houston area. Some of our growers only supply their plants for commercial projects and habitat restorations so their plants are only available to the public through us.

Rusty Dog Gardens has started growing our own plants to supply future sales.
